Sr. Electrical Engineer

What Is the Opportunity?

The APECS Sr. Electrical Engineer is both a technical hands-on and project management role. You will be focused on the design of pharmaceutical plant utilities and renewable energy plant projects, with an emphasis on controls, instrumentation design and explosion proof wiring, and you will manage project teams. As part of your engineering role, you’ll perform electrical studies, develop engineering documentation, and participate in/oversee electrical engineering design efforts. As Project Lead you’ll be responsible for electrical engineering estimates, capital cost estimates and proposal development.

We will consider a direct hire, contractor, full or part-time hire. The position will be based in Boulder with 10- 20% travel.

Who Are You?

As the Sr. Electrical Engineer, you will have a BSEE and at least 10 years’ experience in controls and instrumentation design, as well as a strong foundation in hazardous area classifications, flammable atmospheres and explosion proof wiring methodology. Technical strengths in process control design, explosion-proof wiring methodology and instrumentation important. Active P.E. certification strongly desired. Project management or management experience required.

You’re a highly motivated and self-directed individual with excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and strong communication and team-building abilities. You have solid experience in effectively executing design work on projects of varying sizes. You appreciate diversity in projects and have demonstrated an ability to work effectively with a broad range of stakeholders, as well as working independently.

 

As an APECS Sr. Electrical Engineer you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • At least 10 years’ related power, instrumentation and process control design experience in highly sensitive manufacturing environments such as those found in pharmaceutical, oil/gas or chemical industries
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) Certification strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of classified equipment and wiring methods
  • Demonstrated success with the development and execution of electrical projects
  • Familiarity with construction phase inspection and equipment submittals verifications
  • Systems startup experience
  • Familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution systems
  • Demonstrated Project Management abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of NEC codes and API Standards
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience preparing complete quality construction packages (including deliverables such as loop sheets, electrical schematic diagrams and one-line diagrams) for the engineering, procurement and construction of electrical systems
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office)
